U.S. Ambassador warns against birth tourism fraud in Dominican Republic

Leah Francis Campos, the United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, has warned against fraudulent practices related to “birth tourism,” where individuals travel to the U.S. to give birth and secure citizenship for their children. Campos stated that U.S. citizenship is a “privilege of great value and cannot become a business,” noting that such actions compromise the integrity of the immigration system.

The Ambassador emphasized that legal consequences will target not only those traveling for this purpose but also the networks that facilitate it, including intermediaries and medical providers. These enforcement measures align with policies from the administration of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio aimed at strengthening immigration laws and border security.

Campos urged Dominican citizens to be honest during the visa application process and to use their visas strictly for their intended purposes to avoid jeopardizing their futures.
