US and Canadian economic indicators show mixed trends

Economic indicators from the United States and Canada show mixed trends. In the US, consumer confidence fell sharply in September according to the Conference Board, following two months of growth. The US labor market saw a slight decrease in job openings in August, though new hires rose slightly while layoffs declined.

Regarding the housing market, the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index rose 1.9 percent in the twelve months leading up to July, up from a 1.6 percent increase in June. Meanwhile, Federal Reserve officials, including Michael Barr, Christopher Waller, Michelle Bowman, and John Williams, have maintained a consistent hawkish tone regarding economic conditions and financing.

In Canada, the economy showed signs of recovery as GDP grew in July following a period of stagnation, though expectations for future growth remain tempered by increasing tariffs.
