US and China clash over global AI influence and cooperation

The United States is reportedly preparing to advise various nations to choose between US-led artificial intelligence initiatives and those involving China. Reports suggest Washington may warn countries that participating in Beijing’s competing AI frameworks could result in exclusion from US-led AI alliances.

In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has expressed opposition to what it describes as “bloc confrontation” in the technology sector. Spokesman Lin Jian stated that all countries should have the right to independently select their AI partners and models based on their specific national development needs. He urged a move away from a “zero-sum mentality” toward a system of global AI governance that respects digital sovereignty.

This geopolitical tension follows the recent establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), an independent intergovernmental organization headquartered in Shanghai, which was signed by 29 countries last month.
