US and China compete for dominance in AI and semiconductor ecosystems

The technological rivalry between the United States and China is evolving into a competition over the ecosystems that will define 21st-century economic and military power. This struggle centers on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and computational infrastructure.

Washington is promoting the ‘Pax Silica’ alliance, which includes partners such as Japan, South Korea, India, and European nations, to secure essential supply chains. In response, Beijing has launched the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), attracting members including Russia, Iran, Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia.

Despite strict U.S. export controls on advanced AI chips, China continues to advance its domestic industry. Reports indicate that Chinese firms are bypassing restrictions through illegal shipments of hardware, such as Nvidia servers, and by utilizing cloud computing services in Southeast Asian data centers to access processing power remotely. This shift creates a complex landscape where many nations, including Mexico, Canada, and Vietnam, maintain significant economic ties to both blocs.
