US and China agree to $60 billion reciprocal tariff reduction
The United States and China have reached a reciprocal agreement to reduce tariffs on approximately $30 billion worth of goods each. This deal follows a state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the United States and negotiations held in Washington and New York.
Under the agreement, the United States will lower duties on 77 categories of Chinese imports, including toys, household appliances, and seasonal decorations. China has included 1,619 types of American products in its reduction list, with a heavy focus on the agri-food sector, including corn, wheat, poultry, and dairy products. The Chinese list also covers medical devices and coal.
Strategic sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, and batteries remain excluded from these reductions. While soybeans are not part of the immediate tariff reduction list, China has committed to purchasing 25 million metric tons of American soybeans annually through 2028. Additionally, China is expected to import at least 10 million metric tons of American coal in 2027 and 2028.
