US and German banks tempt savers with 4%‑plus yearly interest
A CBS News calculation shows that a $10,000 one‑year fixed‑term deposit at the top U.S. banks paying 4.10%–4.15% would generate $410‑$415 in interest, more than a dollar a day. The rates are locked for the full term and the deposits are protected by U.S. deposit insurance.
In Germany, comparable savings products offer slightly lower yields. The Sparda‑Bank West promotes a 3.2% guaranteed daily‑interest rate on a special account that remains fixed until 15 February 2027. Other institutions list higher short‑term rates: Bigbank advertises 4.05% for four months, while Deutsche Bank’s limited promotion provides 2.7% for a year on deposits of at least €2,500, provided the money does not originate from its own group. Overall German one‑year fixed‑term rates hover around 3.0%‑3.05%, still above the European Central Bank’s 2.25% policy rate.
