US and Iran tensions prompt increased defense spending in Persian Gulf
During the Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain, officials and analysts warned of a potential escalation in military conflict between the United States and Iran. Analysts from the International Institute for Strategic Studies suggest that signals from the US administration indicate possible preparations for military action against Iran.
In response to these threats, Persian Gulf states are increasing defense investments, purchasing modern military systems and anti-drone technology. These nations are also diversifying security partnerships due to growing doubts regarding long-term US support. New collaborations are emerging with Turkey, Pakistan, and South Korea, while the United Arab Emirates is investing in Israeli technology.
German representative Nils Schmid noted that existing tensions have already contributed to rising oil prices, inflation, and economic instability. While European nations advocate for a diplomatic resolution, Qatar is currently engaged in mediation efforts involving both Iranian and US parties to prevent further conflict.
