US and Iran to meet for July 11 talks in Pakistan

The United States and Iran have scheduled a new round of negotiations for July 11 in Pakistan. The talks will address three core issues: the lifting of U.S. sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and the status of Tehran's nuclear programme. The meeting follows indirect discussions in Doha that produced a tentative agreement to free up about $3 billion in Iranian funds, contingent on diplomatic progress.

Pakistan, together with Qatar, is acting as a mediator, reflecting Islamabad's growing diplomatic role between the two sides. The negotiations occur in the wake of the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Jamenei and the appointment of his son Mojtaba Jamenei, adding internal political uncertainty to the talks. Both parties view the summit as a chance to ease regional tension and stabilize energy markets, while the outcome remains uncertain.
