US and Japan pledge deeper cyber security cooperation after Washington talks

The United States and Japan held a two‑day cyber dialogue in Washington on June 30 and July 1, marking the 11th U.S.–Japan Cyber Dialogue. A joint statement issued after the talks committed both sides to expand intelligence sharing, strengthen protection of critical infrastructure, and intensify cooperation against cybercrime in the Indo‑Pacific region.

Both governments agreed to accelerate the adoption of post‑quantum cryptography, leverage artificial intelligence for cyber defence, and develop secure sovereign‑cloud infrastructure. They also pledged to align their international cyber policies, share national cyber strategies, and coordinate technical assistance for third‑country resilience. Senior officials from a wide range of U.S. agencies—including the State Department, National Security Council, Department of Defense, FBI, DHS, CISA, and others—participated alongside Japanese ministries of Internal Affairs, Finance, Trade, Defense, and the National Police Agency.
