US and Nigeria deepen counterterrorism partnership

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States is deeply concerned about the surge in violence targeting Christians in Nigeria and reaffirmed the ongoing counter‑terrorism cooperation with the Nigerian government. He highlighted a recent joint operation that eliminated the second‑in‑command of a global ISIS cell operating inside Nigeria, noting that the partnership aims to dismantle extremist networks and bolster regional stability.

Rubio’s remarks underscore a broader U.S. effort to work closely with Nigerian security forces to combat terrorism and protect vulnerable communities in the country.
