US and North Korea summit possible at any time, says South Korean intelligence

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service has indicated that a summit between the United States and North Korea could occur at any time. According to briefings provided to South Korean lawmakers, intelligence assessments suggest there are signs of dialogue emerging between Washington and Pyongyang, although no concrete confirmation of direct contact has been established.

U.S. President Donald Trump has previously expressed interest in meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un again. While Pyongyang has largely remained silent regarding these proposals in public, the potential for renewed diplomacy exists despite ongoing regional tensions.

In a separate development, the United States, South Korea, and Japan are preparing for joint maritime exercises scheduled to begin on September 7. North Korea has criticized these upcoming drills, describing them as a security threat and a precursor to conflict, while the participating nations maintain the exercises are defensive in nature.
