US and PSI partners reaffirm UN sanctions against Iran

The United States and partners of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) have reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iran. This commitment follows the one-year anniversary of the reactivation of six UN Security Council resolutions—1696, 1737, 1747, 1803, 1835, and 1929—via the ‘snapback’ mechanism.

The snapback process was initiated by France, Germany, and the United Kingdom due to Tehran’s continued non-compliance with its nuclear commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

PSI signatories pledged to prevent the supply, sale, or transfer of goods, materials, equipment, and technology that could assist Iran’s nuclear activities or the development of nuclear weapon delivery systems. They also committed to enforcing restrictions on the transfer of weapons and related materials, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and promised faster information sharing among partners to monitor proliferation activities.
