US and UK announce safety recalls of consumer products

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a wave of recalls affecting dozens of items sold on Amazon, ranging from children’s toys with button‑cell batteries to Thermos food jars, portable bed rails, electric scooters and kerosene‑fuel containers. While no injuries have been reported for most products, incidents involving choking hazards, vision loss from jar stoppers, and a scooter‑related fall have been noted, prompting the agency to urge consumers to stop using the items immediately.

In the United Kingdom, the Office for Product Safety & Standards ordered an urgent recall of the Bababing UNA highchair after identifying that four screws securing the seat to the base could become loose, potentially causing the seat to detach and a child to fall. The recall applies to batch BQ00249 sold from October 2023 and imported from China. Parents are advised to contact the manufacturer for a repair kit or replacement.

Both recalls highlight ongoing regulatory efforts to protect consumers from serious injury or death caused by defective consumer products.
