Anduril and U.S. Navy announce $6.6B Maryland shipyard project

President Donald Trump and the U.S. Navy have announced a $6.6 billion public-private investment to establish Arsenal-2, a new shipyard in Sparrows Point, Maryland. The project involves a $3.7 billion investment from defense technology firm Anduril Industries and a U.S. Navy contract valued at up to $2.9 billion.

The facility, spanning approximately 2 million square feet, is designed to manufacture critical components and large assemblies for Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines. These components will be delivered to existing shipbuilders, including General Dynamics Electric Boat and Huntington Ingalls Industries, for final assembly. The shipyard aims to address production bottlenecks and bolster the U.S. maritime industrial base in response to growing naval competition.

Arsenal-2 is expected to begin operations in 2030. The project is projected to create over 3,100 direct jobs in Maryland and support an additional 11,000 jobs nationwide. Some reports indicate that American taxpayers may receive a 40% stake in a new Anduril subsidiary created to operate the facility.
