U.S. Army awards ISV‑Heavy prototype contracts to GM Defense, Ford, BC Customs

The U.S. Army announced contracts to three vendors—GM Defense, Ford Motor Company and BC Customs—to develop nine prototypes of the Infantry Squad Vehicle‑Heavy (ISV‑Heavy). Each company will deliver three variants by March 2027, after which the prototypes will undergo operational assessments and limited developmental testing by the Army Test and Evaluation Command.

The ISV‑Heavy is intended for the Army’s new Mobile Brigade Combat Teams and is designed to provide mobile electrical power for tactical operations centers and mission command on the move. The service plans to acquire a total of 606 vehicles, with a FY2027 budget request of $21 million for an initial purchase of 34 units at an estimated unit cost of $617,000. GM Defense’s prototype is based on a hybrid Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2, while Ford’s version adapts its Super Duty pickup platform. President Donald Trump visited GM Defense’s Milford Proving Ground in Michigan during the announcement.
