U.S. Army increases Infantry Squad Vehicle goal to over 11,000 units

The United States Army has significantly increased its procurement goal for Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISV), raising the target to 11,582 units. This represents a massive expansion from the original plan to acquire only 649 vehicles.

Launched in 2019, the program aims to fill a tactical gap between larger vehicles, such as the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle and the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. The ISV provides lightweight transport for nine soldiers and their equipment, enhancing infantry maneuverability.

The rapid expansion is driven by direct requests from personnel following successful combat training exercises. To accelerate deployment, the Army bypassed traditional defense procurement processes that can take up to a decade, instead utilizing existing commercial components with minimal modifications. Future, heavier versions of the vehicle are expected to feature increased energy storage and power capacity to support modern command technologies.
