U.S. Army selects IDV USA for autonomous breaching initiative

The U.S. Army has selected IDV USA as one of four industry participants for the Engineer Autonomous Breaching Capability (EABC) initiative. The program aims to develop autonomous systems capable of breaching complex obstacles and minefields under fire, thereby reducing risk to human personnel.

IDV USA will utilize its VIKING Uncrewed Ground Vehicle (UGV) as the primary mobility platform. The VIKING is a 6x6 hybrid diesel-electric vehicle with a gross weight of 2 tons and a payload capacity of 750 kg. It is designed to operate in contested or GNSS-degraded environments using specialized autonomy software and navigation technologies like ATLAS.

In addition to IDV USA, the Army has selected Caterpillar, Forterra, and Overland AI to participate in the evaluation. The initiative will progress through a series of demonstrations and operational assessments to inform future decisions regarding next-generation autonomous engineer systems.
