U.S. Army offers GTA 6 leave to encourage reenlistment

A unit of the U.S. Army at Fort Stewart, Georgia, is using the upcoming release of the video game Grand Theft Auto VI as a unique incentive for soldiers to reenlist. The 9th Engineer Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Division has offered eligible personnel four days of leave to play the game upon its release.

To qualify for the four-day leave, soldiers must sign a contract extension lasting between two and six years. The offer is available to approximately 130 eligible soldiers, and at least 20 have already decided to reenlist under the program. The deadline to commit to the new contract is November 14, 2026, aligning with the game's scheduled release on November 19, 2026.

Commanders stated the initiative was designed to create a motivational program that aligns with the interests of the soldiers. This move follows previous efforts by the military to engage with gaming culture, including participation in e-sports and gaming conventions.
