US Army targets procurement of 133,000 GMLRS missiles by 2034

The US Army aims to procure 133,014 GMLRS (Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System) missiles by 2034 to replenish stocks depleted by ongoing deliveries to Ukraine. To meet this goal, the Army seeks to increase production capacity by approximately 36 percent compared to current targets.

The proposed procurement schedule envisions an annual production of 19,002 units between 2028 and 2034, with the first deliveries expected as early as 2030. The expansion includes technical adjustments and various models, such as extended-range versions and alternative warheads. These precision rockets are compatible with both the M142 HIMARS and the M270 MLRS systems.

While Lockheed Martin is the current sole producer, the US government plans to share technical specifications and drawings to allow other companies to join the program. This move aims to find the most cost-effective and streamlined methods to achieve the required scale, addressing previous challenges in munitions production.
