US Army tests M1E3 Abrams and XM30 combat vehicle prototypes

The US Army has released footage and images showcasing live-fire testing of next-generation armored platforms, including the M1E3 Abrams tank and XM30 infantry combat vehicle prototypes. The M1E3 is a redesign of the main battle tank featuring an unmanned turret, an automatic loader, and a three-person crew within the hull.

In the XM30 program, competition is currently between General Dynamics Land Systems and Rheinmetall. Prototypes for the XM30 were delivered in late summer, with more expected by the end of the year. These vehicles are slated for military testing, including rotations at the National Training Center in 2027, before a final selection is made.

Additionally, the Mobile Tactical Cannon program, intended to replace the M777 towed howitzer, has selected the Hanwha Defense USA K9 Mobile Howitzer. The program includes an initial order of six prototypes with options for twelve more.
