U.S. Attorneys General Sue Trump Administration Over 2027 ACA Rule

A coalition of state attorneys general, led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport, has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The suit seeks to block portions of a 2027 rule issued by the Trump administration that would expand eligibility for catastrophic health‑insurance plans, raise allowable out‑of‑pocket costs, and add new income‑verification requirements. Plaintiffs argue the rule would make coverage harder to obtain and could push millions of Americans into higher‑cost plans. The Department estimates the rule could cause 2 million people to lose coverage by 2027 and up to 5 million by 2030. The lawsuit aims to prevent enforcement of these provisions and preserve the affordability and accessibility of the Affordable Care Act marketplace.
