U.S. authorities raid North Korean laptop farms in Texas

Federal agents conducted raids across more than 40 locations in North Texas as part of Operation Lone Star Roundup, seizing approximately 180 to 190 laptops. Authorities allege these devices were part of a widespread operation involving laptop farms used by North Korean operatives to pose as American remote workers.

U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould stated that information technology workers from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) earn wages from American companies and funnel the funds to the North Korean government. Officials claim these earnings are used to finance the regime’s nuclear and ballistic weapons programs. Indictments are expected following the seizure of the devices.
