US agencies seize over 600 drones near FIFA World Cup stadiums

American federal agencies have confiscated more than 600 drones operating within prohibited airspace around FIFA World Cup venues in the United States since the tournament began on June 11. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said drones are banned within a three‑nautical‑mile radius and up to 3,000 ft altitude around stadiums, unless specifically authorized by air‑traffic control. The FBI reported seizures in all 11 host cities, including 130 drones in Miami and over 70 in Dallas during five matches. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also barred drone flights over matches and fan zones, limiting use to a one‑nautical‑mile radius and 1,000 ft altitude in those areas. Operators who violate the restrictions face fines up to $100,000 and possible criminal charges. FBI teams have been stationed around the venues to detect and neutralize unauthorized drones. The enforcement actions follow a 2025 executive order signed by former President Donald Trump to strengthen U.S. defenses against dangerous drones, and recent investments by DHS and FEMA in anti‑drone technology for public events.
