US autumn foliage predicted to peak between late September and mid-October
Meteorologists predict that peak autumn foliage in the United States will occur between late September and mid-October. According to AccuWeather, the most vibrant colors are expected in the northern United States and along the Northwest coast.
Expert Alex DaSilva suggests that the best viewing opportunities will be found in the Great Lakes region, the upper Midwest, and parts of northern Pennsylvania, New York, and New England. These interior Northeast areas may benefit from avoiding the most severe summer drought conditions.
In New England, there is optimism for the season following a brief foliage period last year. A cold, snowy winter combined with spring moisture and timely summer rains have helped replenish soil nutrients and aid forest recovery.
