US B-1B Lancer bomber activity increases near RAF Fairford

Residents in Swindon, Wiltshire, and southern Gloucestershire have reported a significant increase in B-1B Lancer bomber flights over the region. The aircraft are operating out of RAF Fairford, which has served as a key hub for American military operations in the Middle East this year.

The surge in activity coincides with intensified United States military operations against Iran. US Central Command reported conducting strikes on Tuesday evening against Iranian air defense systems, radar installations, and maritime assets. US officials stated these actions were a response to alleged Iranian threats against American military personnel and commercial shipping in the Middle East.

The B-1B Lancer, also known as the ‘Bone’, is a supersonic heavy bomber capable of carrying a 75,000-pound payload. RAF Fairford is noted as one of the few locations in Europe capable of supporting such large strategic bombers.
