U.S.-Mexico border authorities report major narcotics seizures
Law enforcement agencies in the United States and Mexico have reported significant increases in narcotics interdictions along major border corridors. In San Diego, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported seizing over 8,300 pounds of narcotics in July, including fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value exceeding $67 million.
In the Nogales region, authorities intercepted approximately 9,000 fentanyl pills hidden in a vehicle and 40 pounds of cocaine inside a stove. Similarly, in Calexico, CBP agents seized over 1,000 pounds of cocaine valued at $20 million. Data from the El Paso sector indicates a 65.96 percent increase in drug seizures over a ten-month period compared to the previous year, with cocaine being the primary substance recovered.
In international waters, the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) supervised the destruction of 1,362 kilograms of cocaine, valued at more than $34 million, following the arrest of two Ecuadorian nationals. These operations highlight ongoing efforts by both nations to disrupt large-scale smuggling routes between South America and the United States.
