U.S. Border Patrol Detains Migrants in San Diego Boat Landing and Yuma Trunk Case

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in the San Diego sector intercepted a panga‑type boat near La Jolla on July 28, detaining three Mexican nationals and one Guatemalan citizen who had attempted to enter the United States by sea. The four were taken to the Imperial Beach Border Patrol station for processing, and the vessel was seized while the investigation continued. Border Patrol chief Justin De La Torre warned that maritime smuggling operations continue to place people in dangerous situations.

In a separate incident on July 11, Border Patrol agents in the Yuma sector stopped a vehicle near Winterhaven, California, and discovered a U.S. woman hiding a Mexican man in the trunk. The woman faces a criminal charge for people‑trafficking, and the migrant will be transferred to immigration authorities for deportation proceedings.
