U.S. revokes visas of 26 Latin American officials, including Bolivian Attorney General

The United States government has revoked the visas of 26 authorities and businesspeople from Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia. Among those affected is Bolivian Attorney General Roger Mariaca, who is currently leading investigations into Argentine consultant Fernando Cerimedo.

Cerimedo, described by The Economist as 'the MAGA man in Latin America,' is a digital strategist for conservative leaders including Argentina's Javier Milei and Bolivia's Rodrigo Paz. He is currently under investigation in Bolivia for alleged attempted feminicide against Nadia Beller, as well as drug trafficking and illicit enrichment. Bolivian police have also linked him to a 'click farm' used for social media manipulation.

The U.S. Department of State justified the restrictions under the 'Escudo de las Américas' initiative, accusing Mariaca of accepting bribes to facilitate drug trafficking and helping criminals evade justice. Mariaca has rejected these accusations, characterizing the visa revocation as a violation of Bolivian sovereignty and an attempt to interfere with judicial independence.
