US Catholic Bishops to discuss AI and migration at fall meeting
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has announced the primary topics for its upcoming plenary assembly, scheduled for November 16-19 in Baltimore. Key items on the agenda include artificial intelligence, migration, and signs of Church renewal.
A recently established AI task force, led by Bishop Oscar Cantú of San Jose, will provide an update on its progress. The task force includes eight episcopal members, such as Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, and three lay consultants from institutions including The Catholic University of America, the University of Notre Dame, and Georgetown University. The group aims to emphasize human dignity and the common good in AI development.
Additionally, the Committee on Migration will brief the bishops. This follows the conference’s previous pastoral message regarding immigration, which opposed indiscriminate mass deportations. The public sessions of the assembly on November 17 and 18 will be livestreamed via the USCCB website.
