US Central Command deploys 50,000 troops to Middle East
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, announced that 50,000 US troops are currently deployed in the Middle East for military operations. A significant portion of these forces is engaged in a naval blockade against Iran.
Cooper stated that the US military has cleared Iranian sea mines from international shipping lanes within the Strait of Hormuz to maintain commercial traffic. He reported that the military has escorted approximately 1,500 commercial vessels, which have transported a total of 750 million barrels of crude oil.
The current regional tension follows strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets beginning on February 28. Although the United States and Iran signed a memorandum to cease hostilities in mid-June, military strikes between the parties have continued.
