Trump and Putin dispute scheduled call over Siberian pneumonia death

A diplomatic disagreement has emerged between Washington and Moscow regarding a scheduled telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. While President Trump announced that a call was organized to discuss the death of a 28-year-old scientist in Siberia, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskow stated that no specific time has been agreed upon and the two leaders have not yet coordinated the contact.

The discussion centers on the death of a laboratory technician at a plague research institute near Irkutsk. Russian authorities have attributed the death to a “pneumonia of unknown origin” rather than a plague pathogen. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) has requested detailed information from Russia following reports of a potential second case of pneumonia in the region.

President Trump has expressed skepticism regarding the possibility of a biological weapon being involved in the incident, though he noted that Russia has provided limited information. The WHO and international observers continue to call for greater transparency from Russian officials to conduct a proper risk assessment.
