US Citizen Promotes Bali Land Sale, Prompting Investigation

A United States citizen appeared in a viral Facebook video offering a 54‑are (about 5,000 m²) parcel of land in Kintamani, Bangli Regency, Bali. The video triggered public concern because foreign nationals are not permitted to own land in Indonesia.

Bangli regent Sang Nyoman Sedana Arta said the matter is being examined by the local communications authority (Kominfo) and noted that the land’s ownership and zoning details were unclear. Immigration officials in Denpasar have summoned the American, identified only by the initials SR, for clarification on his visa status and whether he is conducting business without the proper permit. Authorities warned that violations could lead to administrative sanctions or deportation. The case highlights growing scrutiny of foreign participation in Indonesian property transactions.
