US Senate Advances CLARITY Act Ethics Revision
Senators Thom Tillis (R) and Ruben Gallego (D) reached a bipartisan agreement to tighten the ethics provisions of the CLARITY Act, restricting senior officials—including the President—from holding or sponsoring crypto projects. The amendment adds a new government‑ethics title to the bill.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune warned that a vote before the August recess is unlikely and no cloture motion has been scheduled. JPMorgan lowered its estimate for the act’s passage this year to about 37 percent, citing the stalled ethics, stable‑coin yield, DeFi and AML debates.
