US coach Pochettino criticises inadequate press‑conference space at World Cup opener

The United States opened the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 4‑1 victory over Paraguay at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, a match attended by Hollywood celebrities such as Tom Cruise, David Beckham and Leonardo DiCaprio.

After the game, US manager Mauricio Pochettino complained that the makeshift press‑conference area inside the stadium was noisy and poorly suited for a major briefing. He said the space was “provisional” with work vehicles and staff constantly moving, making it difficult to communicate, and urged FIFA to improve the facilities for future sessions.

Pochettino also praised his team's performance, noting the strong start and cautioning against excessive euphoria as two more group matches remain.
