US coach Pochettino says America can win 2026 World Cup at home
Argentina‑born Mauricio Pochettino, head coach of the United States men’s national soccer team, said the United States can win the 2026 FIFA World Cup on home soil. He dismissed expectations of only reaching the quarter‑finals, arguing that the squad’s talent and work ethic are sufficient for a championship.
Pochettino also announced he will not sing the national anthem, stating he represents the USA solely through sport and wants to keep politics out of the team. He hopes the tournament will generate positive emotions – “affection, joy, hope, love and empathy” – and serve as a unifying force across cultures and religions. His contract runs through the 2026 World Cup, after which reports link him with a possible return to European club football, including discussions with AC Milan.
