U.S. Coast Guard Academy honored with new USPS stamp

The United States Postal Service has issued a new postage stamp to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. A dedication ceremony for the stamp took place at Custom House Pier in New London.

Rear Adm. Gregory C. Rothrock, the academy superintendent, and Marc McCrery, USPS customer experience vice president, attended the event. The stamp honors the academy's history and its mission to develop leaders for the Coast Guard, following the service's motto, ‘Semper Paratus’ (Always Ready).

The academy was authorized by Congress on July 31, 1876, originally as the Revenue Cutter School of Instruction. It began its training operations in May 1877.
