U.S. Coast Guard detains 37 migrants off Southern California coast

The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted 37 suspected illegal immigrants off the coast of Southern California between October 5 and October 30.

On October 9, a 24-foot vessel carrying 13 individuals was intercepted approximately seven miles from San Diego County. The group was placed in the custody of Imperial Beach Border Patrol agents at Ballast Point. On the same day, the Coast Guard vessel Narwhal intercepted 23 people aboard a 25-foot boat near Santa Cruz Island. The vessel was seized and the individuals were transferred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

On October 17, authorities also responded to a suspicious jet ski near Point Loma. Following a pursuit after the operator failed to obey orders, the vehicle struck a wave and capsized, resulting in the detention of a passenger.
