U.S. Coast Guard recovers two deceased and rescues one survivor near St. Lawrence Island

The U.S. Coast Guard has concluded search operations near St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, following a maritime incident involving three boaters. One 15-year-old survivor was rescued from a capsized skiff after being located by an HC-130 Hercules aircrew from Air Station Kodiak. The survivor, who was experiencing symptoms of hypothermia, was assisted by the Northwest Explorer, a nearby vessel that acted as a good Samaritan.

Tragically, two deceased individuals were recovered from the water. Both were unresponsive when taken aboard the Northwest Explorer and subsequently transported to Nome.

The rescue effort involved extensive coordination between the Coast Guard Arctic District, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center, the Alaska Air National Guard, Alaska State Troopers, and local authorities in Savoonga. Participating assets included multiple HC-130 aircraft and MH-60 Jayhawk helicopters.
