US Coast Guard rescues man pinned under rock at Hammond Marina

The US Coast Guard conducted a helicopter rescue on Saturday morning at the Hammond Marina jetty in Warrenton. An MH-60 Jayhawk crew from Air Station Astoria responded to a request for assistance after a man became pinned under a rock on the jetty.

Local fire departments determined that the unstable terrain made a foot evacuation unsafe. The Coast Guard crew arrived on the scene at 8:51 a.m. and successfully hoisted the injured individual. He was transferred to emergency medical services at 9:55 a.m. and subsequently taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Chief Petty Officer Patrick Toomey noted that the operation demonstrated the cooperation between the Coast Guard and local agencies. Authorities issued a reminder regarding the dangers of jetties and breakwaters, noting that slippery surfaces and shifting boulders can cause serious injury.
