U.S. Coast Guard seizes $2.4 million marijuana haul

The U.S. Coast Guard seized 2,082 pounds of suspected marijuana, valued at more than $2.4 million, following the interception of a high-speed vessel. The operation was conducted by a patrol crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba.

According to the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S), the crew identified a suspicious “go-fast vessel” and deployed a boat team to investigate. After the vessel stopped, personnel discovered a “bale field” along the boat’s previous path. They subsequently recovered 47 bales of the suspected narcotics from the water.

Four individuals were detained during the interdiction. While the exact location of the seizure was not specified, JIATF-S credited the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Haiti for providing search assistance and coordination during the mission.
