US Coast Guard suspends search for medical aircraft crew and passengers

The US Coast Guard has suspended active search operations for six people aboard a medical transport aircraft that crashed off the coast of Nantucket. The search, which lasted approximately 66 hours and covered 4,445 miles, was ended on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.

The aircraft, a Latitude Air Ambulances Gulfstream G-100, was traveling from Bermuda to Boston when contact was lost. The passengers included four Canadian nationals and two Bermudian nationals. Among those on board were two pilots and two medical staff, both Canadian.

Authorities confirmed the discovery of a debris field, but officials noted that locating the aircraft’s black box presents significant challenges due to the extensive nature of the debris. Flight data indicated the plane experienced a significant drop in altitude before communications ceased. Rear Admiral Matthew Lake, Commander of the Northeast District, expressed condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
