US college students seek crypto education amid lack of formal courses

Research commissioned by OKX reveals a significant gap between student demand for cryptocurrency and blockchain education and the availability of such courses in U.S. higher education. According to the study, 90% of U.S. college students and 87% of parents believe these topics should be included in college curricula, with many advocating for them to be mandatory coursework.

Despite this high demand, formal academic offerings remain limited. A review of 533 AACSB-accredited business schools in the U.S. found that only approximately 28% offer blockchain-related courses.

As a result of this educational deficit, students are increasingly turning to non-traditional sources for information. Approximately 33% of students identified social media or influencers as their primary source for learning about crypto, a figure nearly five times higher than the 7% who cited professors or school as their main source. In contrast, parents rely more heavily on crypto platforms and apps (21%) and financial advisors (19%).
