U.S. colleges urge measles immunity documentation to prevent campus disruptions

Colleges and universities in the United States are proactively urging faculty, staff, and students to provide proof of measles immunity to prevent significant campus disruptions. This movement follows a recent outbreak in a suburban Denver school district that forced 80 students and employees into home quarantine for several weeks.

The University of Northern Colorado is among the institutions taking preventative measures. Officials at the university have warned that a single confirmed case could trigger a major public health response, potentially resulting in individuals being excluded from campus for 21 days or longer. The university noted that having a vaccine exemption on file will not prevent such an exclusion during an outbreak.
