US commemorates 250th Independence anniversary with renewed Declaration signing

Americans are electronically signing a renewed version of the Declaration of Independence as part of the "Sign On 250" campaign marking the nation's 250th anniversary. Launched on June 30, the initiative is backed by the National League of Cities, America’s Newspapers, the James Madison Institute and the Bob Graham Center for Public Service at the University of Florida. Within a month, almost 3,000 people from all 50 states and most U.S. territories had signed, with Florida contributing roughly half of the signatures. The renewed document mirrors the original’s opening paragraphs before urging continued commitment to unity, civic participation and education. Sign‑on participants can add their names through July 2027.

A companion video series, also titled "250 to 250," highlights everyday Americans and public figures—such as Senator Mark Kelly, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Becca Balint—discussing themes of community, democracy, innovation and civil rights to underscore the ongoing relevance of the founding principles. The project aims to showcase how citizens can shape the country's future.
