U.S. Commerce Department officials visit Montenegro to support arbitration development

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) visited the Economic Chamber of Montenegro to discuss strengthening arbitration and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in the country.

During meetings with Mitro Bajčeta, General Secretary of the Chamber, and Vesko Božović, President of the Arbitration Court at the Economic Chamber, officials discussed leveraging CLDP expertise to develop arbitration and mediation centers. The goal is to enhance institutional capacity and promote these mechanisms within the business community to improve the regulatory and investment environment.

Bajčeta noted that while the Arbitration Court serves as an important mechanism, the current use of arbitration in Montenegro has not yet reached desired levels. The Chamber expressed hope that American expertise and the exchange of international experience will increase the visibility and effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution in the region.
