US airstrikes on southern Iran kill family on Qeshm Island

On 30 July 2026 the United States carried out a wide wave of air strikes against targets in southern Iran, focusing on Hormozgan province including the strategic city of Bandar Abbas and the islands of Qeshm, Kish and Abu Musa. A residential house in the Shah Tanku neighbourhood of Qeshm was hit, killing a father, mother and their young child while two other children were wounded. The strike caused a three‑hour power outage on the island and prompted rescue teams to search for additional victims trapped under rubble, rescuing two children and continuing to look for three more.

U.S. Central Command said the operations hit dozens of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities – missile‑storage sites, UAV launch points, radar installations, coastal‑defence positions and naval assets – in retaliation for earlier missile attacks on U.S. forces in the region. Washington also noted that more than 50 000 U.S. troops are deployed across the Middle East and remain on high alert.

Other cities such as Bushehr, Jam, and Jaghadk were also struck, though early reports did not confirm casualties there. The strikes represent the first direct U.S. attack on Iran since a brief cease‑fire, raising the risk of further escalation between the two powers.
