U.S. Congress Criticizes Trump Administration's Secrecy on Iran War

Republican and Democratic members of the U.S. Congress have voiced frustration over the Trump administration’s limited briefings on the ongoing conflict with Iran. Lawmakers say the Pentagon has largely stopped providing detailed press briefings since early May, forcing them to rely on the president’s statements and social‑media posts.

Representative Mike Turner (OH) urged the administration to share more information with Congress, while Senator Bill Cassidy (LA) and Senator Mark Kelly (AZ) complained of being kept in the dark about the cease‑fire agreement reached in June. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Dan Ken, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA Director John Ratcliffe were pressed to hold a longer press conference to explain why the United States remains engaged in the war.

The lawmakers also highlighted a $67 billion defense funding request presented to the Senate Appropriations Committee, noting that the lack of a clear strategy from President Donald Trump hampers oversight and policy decisions.
