U.S. Congressmen Raja Krishnamoorthi and Shri Thanedar urge Indian‑American community to fight anti‑India hate and run ​

During events marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, Democratic Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois and Shri Thanedar of Michigan denounced anti‑India and anti‑immigrant prejudice in the United States. They called on the Indian‑American diaspora to counter the hostility by stepping into public service, running for office at the local, state and federal levels regardless of party affiliation.

Both lawmakers highlighted the community’s contributions – noting that Indian‑Americans make up about 10 % of U.S. doctors and own roughly 60 % of the nation’s hotels and motels – and argued that greater political representation would help protect those contributions from bigotry.

The speakers urged Indian‑Americans to view civic participation as a duty, emphasizing that “we are here to stay” and that fighting prejudice requires active involvement in the political arena.
