US conservative groups expand global influence on social policy

US-based Christian conservative organizations are building international networks to influence social policy in Africa and beyond. In Ghana, the ‘National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values’ has established an interfaith alliance involving Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, and traditional leaders to advocate against LGBTQ rights. This model of cooperation has expanded to Uganda, where interreligious councils supported legislation including the death penalty for ‘aggravated homosexuality.’

Simultaneously, a global movement centered on the ‘Geneva Consensus Declaration’ is gaining momentum. Originally initiated during the first Trump administration, this document asserts the primacy of the ‘right to life’ and rejects the existence of an international right to abortion. The coalition of supporting nations has grown from 22 to 46 countries, including Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil. This strategy aligns with an ‘America First’ approach to global health, shifting from multilateral humanitarian aid toward bilateral agreements that prioritize specific social and family values in international institutions.
