U.S. considers sanctions on Brazil officials as UN rapporteur calls for Israel trade halt

United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has called on Brazil to suspend all trade with Israel. Albanese, who has been declared persona non grata by Israel, argues that sanctions against the state are necessary to end the occupation of Palestinian territory.

Separately, the United States government is evaluating the imposition of new sanctions against Brazilian authorities due to ongoing tensions involving the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF). High-ranking officials at the U.S. Department of State indicated that measures are being prepared, specifically monitoring Justice Alexandre de Moraes and other members of the court.

Washington is closely observing upcoming judicial proceedings in Brazil, including a plenary session regarding a Federal Police report involving Moraes. The U.S. administration may utilize the Magnitsky Act through the Department of the Treasury to implement financial sanctions if deemed necessary.
